In My Words
Hi, I’m Sharita
I am on a mission to disrupt that the status quo. It cannot be “business as usual” if we want to create meaningful social change. Equality is not about treating everyone the same, it is about creating the environments where EVERYONE can feel safe and free to be their unique whole selves.
I started the process of writing and research in an attempt to make sense of my own professional and personal experiences. What started as a gentle process of inquiry quickly became a bit of an obsession. I never thought that my stories would touch so many and would ignite conversations about identity, gender inequality, racism, structural inequities and so much more. I discovered that I was not alone and that my experiences were not unique. The patterns which emerged uncovered a liberating narrative. We don’t need to change people. We need to change the places, systems and structures which were not designed for us to belong. For too long emphasis has been placed on “fixing’ the behaviours of underrepresented groups instead of the places where they work.
I am committed to interrupting this narrative and to helping individuals and organisations create workplaces that work for EVERYONE.
